Yoshitsune nods at Benkei's plan. There is no hesitation in the thoughts of the lord and his retainer. The figure of Yoshitsune, disguised as a porter, expresses strong determination.

"No one will pass." Togashi, the barrier master at Ataka, is tough on Benkei and the others, pressing them on their lives of Buddhist service, before easing up.

But Togashi sets a difficult problem: "If you're collecting donations for Todaiji Temple, you must be able to read the kanjinchō letter of intent." Benkei takes out a scroll.

In a loud voice that rings to the heavens, he reads out the kanjinchō. The scroll is a fake, but Benkei is protecting Yoshitsune and there is real sincerity.

Won over by the spirit of Benkei, Togashi and the other barrier guards can only let them through.

But their troubles aren't over. Yoshitsune has been noticed.

What will Benkei do?

Thinking only of his lord, Benkei beats him again and again with a staff, holding nothing back.

For Togashi, who is still on the alert, Yoshitsune's retainer puts on a show of temper.

Only Benkei would be able to control his feelings and clear the way for them to get past the barrier.

Permission is given to pass though and Togashu brings a gift of sake to apologize for his rudeness. Benkei responds with a dance, but there is no forgiveness in his heart.

Hiding the tension, he dances.
