Obasute (The Abandoned Old Woman) : PhotoStory

A man from the city has come to Mount Obasute to see the celebrated moon on Aug 15. A woman appears before him and recounts the legend and song of Obasute (literally, “abandoned old woman”).

In fact, she is that abandoned old woman of Obasute. She disappears, then returns as the old woman.

On the evening of the famous moon, she enjoys the short night with the man from the city.

The clear moon shines brightly.

Serenely, serenely, she dances.

At dawn, the old woman is abandoned again and stands alone.
