Former beauty Ono-no-Komachi appears. She is now 100 years old.

Tired from walking, Komachi sits down on a rotten wooden stick at the side of the road. The rotten wooden stick is a stupa (a route maker for pilgrims).

Monks from Mount Kōya rebuke Komachi for disrespecting the stupa, which embodies the Buddha.

With words of wisdom, Komachi talks down the monks. Surprised, they bow deeply to her.

After lamenting her old and ruined body, Komachi suddenly flies into a frenzy.

Her madness is from the grudge of Fukakusa-no-Shōshō, who loved her long ago.

Possessed by Fukakusa-no-Shōshō, Komachi goes back to the past.

Komachi awakens from her madness, determined to take the path of enlightenment.
