The village of Kantan, China. The mistress of an inn has prepared the mysterious pillow of Kantan, which is said to lead to enlightenment.

Rosei lives in the country of Shu Han in China. Searching for what to do with his life, he has left on a journey to meet a great priest.

During his journey, Rosei stays at the inn in Kantan. The mistress recommends that he take a nap on the pillow until the meal is ready.

As Rosei falls asleep, an imperial messenger appears before him. He has come to welcome Rosei as the emperor of Chu. Rosei is taken in a litter to the magnificent Imperial Palace.

A reign of 50 years passes quickly. At a celebration banquet, Rosei receives the congratulations of the dancers.

During the magnificent banquet, Rosei enjoys himself more and more. He begins to dance himself.

Displaying the majestic appearance of an emperor, he dances elegantly.

The more he sings and dances, the more he enjoys himself. Before long...

The scene before Rosei begins to change, shifting rapidly from night to day and from one season to another.

Everything was a dream of Rosei.

The mistress of the inn has woken him up. She says his millet meal is ready.

Fifty years of splendor was only an empty dream. It was the pillow that was our teacher, guiding us to enlightenment.
